AN ISLAND KITCHEN AT THE HEART OF THE HOME
The kitchen is the true heart of this historic home: it connects with the entire ground floor and the expansive outdoor gardens.
THE AMBITIOUS RENOVATION OF THE HISTORIC BLOCK OF FLATS PRESERVES THE MAGIC OF THE PORTUGUESE CITY OF PORTO. IT FITS SEAMLESSLY INTO ITS DECADENT CHARM, DELIVERING A BRIGHT MESSAGE OF REBIRTH.
Proportions in Balance
One of the greatest challenges of the project was the over four-meter ceiling height, which required detailed planning to maintain the balance of the kitchen in terms of shape and proportions, as well as the creation of a custom-made fireplace to serve the room.
The kitchen is designed in a linear layout, with the large island positioned parallel to the dining table for ten guests. This ensures a smooth flow of access to all adjacent areas and the rest of the house. At the same time, the original impact of the palace is preserved, but with numerous contemporary details: from the clean, linear shapes of the furniture to the modern range hood.
The selected materials evoke the tradition of wood and marble in the kitchen, yet every detail is a modern reinterpretation. The kitchen doors are the technical ones from the Aspen variant of All-arounD, made with a lightweight, durable aluminium frame and a front panel with recessed handle in Premium Canaletto walnut veneer, elegant and timeless in style. The island worktop and sides are made from Abu Dhabi White ceramic material.
